Scott Weiland: Memories of a Rock Star Details
Review "I appreciate the passion that Greg put into this book about my friend Scott and his life and work. He was prompt and wanted the world to know about how all his friends and loved ones felt in mourning and celebration. If you are a fan, you have to read it!" --Matt Pinfield, SiriusXM Radio's Lithium"Scott Weiland was quite possibly the last great rock and roll frontman, and his death crushed the rock community. This book was a great opportunity for people who knew Scott and loved his music to remember him and pay tribute." --Brett Buchanan, Alternative Nation site"It's hard to lose a great talent like Scott Weiland, but we will always have his music and our memories! Greg Prato has put together a great collection of down to earth memories from Scott's friends and colleagues. Stay away from the internet rumors and check out the real thing in this book!" --Terry Turen, Stone & Double T (WXRX)"Fans most likely will learn something new - some little tidbit from behind the scenes that they had never heard before, as many of those interviewed don't seem to have shared their stories on the topic of Scott Weiland previously. This book is definitely something to pick up and put on your reading list." --Screamer Magazine"This is a must-read book for anyone interested in Weiland, STP, or Velvet Revolver. Prato has a unique way of connecting the dots in this oral history narrative, and you would be well-advised to check this one out." --Steve Rosen, CurledUp site Read more

I'm not exactly sure what I expected here. It seemed a great idea in theory, but that's where it left off. My surprise began in the introduction when the author said he couldn't remember the exact number of phone interviews he did with Scott. (I thought he was going to say 20 or 25, but he said 2 or 3. I laughed out loud.) This is followed up with interviews from (very) peripheral people "in" Scott's life. None of these interviews were conducted with the bandmates of either STP or VR, men who he spent days/months/years with him. It's like asking the mailman about me. Yes, I see him every day. Yes, I talk to him every day. Yes, he can probably answer questions about me. Does that make him a reliable source? No. Two stars instead of one because he actually interviewed David Ritz who co-authored Scott's book. I'd get it from the library, maybe.
